With the recent trend of technological advance, distance education or distance learning is becoming more recognized for its potential in providing individualized attention and communication with students internationally. Distance education has been described as a process to create and provide access to learning when the source of information and the learners are separated by time and distance, or both.
Some of the benefits of distance education are expanding access, cost reduction, adaptation to new technology and environments, and flexibility for students. For these reasons it has become increasingly popular in universities across North America.
On the surface the benefits of distance education seem undeniable, but according to research students who engage in face-to-face learning have higher grades on average than those who participate in distance learning.
